Haiku Humor : Wit and Folly in Japanese Poems and Prints

Haiku_Humor

One umbrella–
the person more in love
gets wet

Looking foolish
while waiting for
the next sneeze

“Every woman”
he starts to say,
then looks around

Rather than money
he gives plenty
of advice

The foolish couple
mimicking the erotic prints
sprained their wrists

Whispering
and then laughing out loud–
how detestable!

Very secretly
the medicine peddler
is sick

Taking a nap
looks more refined
when holding a book

some senryu and haiku I loved from Haiku Humor, translated by Stephen Addis
